The smaller establishments provide snacks and light meals and there are a wide range of first class restaurants, specializing in local cuisine and dishes from throughout the world.

dishes local to mallorca Traditional Mallorcan cuisine is made from a variety of foods, with emphasis on pork and fish. Garlic and olive oil feature strongly, as well as local almonds and "ramallet", the local tomato.
"Pa amb oli" is a typical dish. It is made from slices of bread covered with oil and garlic with tomato and sometimes cheese or cured ham.
"Trempo" is another popular dish, salad, tomato, onion and green pepper. "Sobrassada" is a meat sausage which can be eaten fried, grilled or even raw. "Matances", the traditional slaughtering of the pig, was an old custom which some families still continue.
Another popular dish is "Frito Mallorqui" which consists of fried lamb offal with potato, onion and peppers.

"Tumbet" is another local dish made from fried eggplant, peppers, tomato and potato.

For fish lovers try fideua-similar to paella but made with pasta instead of rice.

Paella is not a traditional Mallorcan dish but is widely available, as is the local equivalent "Arros brat". Sea bass baked in rock salt is another traditional dish in Mallorca.

If you have a sweet tooth then try the well known "ensaimada", traditionally eaten for breakfast. This is a pastry shaped in a spiral and dusted with sugar.

"Hierbas" dates back to monasteries where the monks made a variety of liquers.

Made from fennel, rosemary, camomile, lemon and orange it has a distinctive aniseed flavour and can be found in three types; dry, sweet and mixed.

Spanish brandy is available from many manufacturers and is popular in coffee at all times of the day.

Gin is made on the neighbouring island of Menorca.
