Car hire companies in Mallorca provide a range of motor vehicles from your basic small car to luxury limousines.
Prices vary according to the type of vehicle and how long you hire it for, with most car hire companies the prices are usually reduced for longer hire contracts. |
Car hire is usually for a minimum of one day. Some car hire
firms request a returnable deposit and there is usually an
excess to pay on the car insurance in case of you having an
accident.
As well as the local car hire companies you will find most of
the major car hire companies based at Palma Airport and at
various locations throughout the island.
Companies vary in their hire systems with regard to the amount
of petrol in the tank when you pick up your hire car. Most have
a full tank of petrol and ask that the vehicle be returned with
a full tank. Others keep the tank low.

Car Insurance and MOT

Your car hire company will provide insurance with the contract but it is best to read the details carefully.
A large number of companies require a deposit to cover the "excess" charges of the insurance company, and this could be lost if you are involved in any form of accident. |
It is your responsibility to make sure the car is legal to drive. This includes making sure that the MOT (ITV in Spain) is up to date.
This can be seen on the sticker on your car windscreen - this is not the road tax as it is in the UK. The car should also have road tax on it.
Although you may or may not be legally liable for these legal aspects, it would spoil your holiday if you had to spend all day in the police station trying to explain it's not your car!
