Music Facilities in Mallorca

On the Island of Mallorca you can enjoy all types of music. There are many concerts held here, especially in Palma where you can enjoy everything, from orchestral music to popular music, with many well known artists performing on a regular basis.
Jazz and folk festivals are also very popular with locals and tourists alike.
In addition to the wide variety of concerts available there are also some wonderful shows to see, professional and amateur, featuring great singing and dancing acts.
The show at Son Amar is particularly well known and popular.

For a different atmosphere the area of Sa Llotja in Palma is one of the busiest areas for music and entertainment. Here the nightlife is very lively and offers a wide selection of music including Jazz, Blues and Flamenco. This is usually a prelude to finishing the night on the Paseo Maritimo with its many music bars, mainly playing popular Spanish music, popular with all walks of life.
Depending upon your location in Mallorca there are numerous local bars and restaurants offering a selection of music. Most coastal resorts have a variety of venues offering everything from Live Entertainment shows to Karaoke. The many acts range from tribute bands to accomplished solo performers, all giving great entertainment value.

Television
There are a numerous Spanish TV channels available throughout Mallorca, most now operating digitally, with a few showing the occasional film or programme in the original language.
Sky TV is a very popular media on the island, especially with ex-pats. In tourist areas the majority of bars and restaurants show popular programmes and sports. Although Sky TV is technically only licensed for the UK the signal can be picked up throughout Europe and there are many companies around which will supply and fit a system to suit your needs.

Radio
There are a number of radio stations in Mallorca, some of which are English speaking and are presented by British DJ’s. These radio stations will keep you up to date with all news, sport and current affairs in Mallorca as well as worldwide, with a good selection of music all day.
Newspapers and Books
There are many newspapers from all areas of Europe, especially the UK and Germany,
widely available in Mallorca (same day) – in addition to the local and Spanish newspapers.
There are also local newspapers printed in English which will give you all of the news from Britain, world news and all local news. These are popular with British living on the island as they often list local events and fiestas.
For those wishing to lay by the pool or sea with a good book there are a number of book shops, new and second hand, available with books in many languages. Most second hand book shops offer an exchange service, or will buy your old books off you. The majority of popular tourist areas have book shops, as well as the capital of Mallorca, Palma.

Cinema.
For those wishing to visit the cinema who cannot understand Spanish there are several cinema complexes, especially around the Palma area, where English or original version films are shown. The local newspapers usually have an up to date listing.
Professional Musicians.
For those working in the industry there are a variety f businesses available for your needs. These include specialised music shops – for instruments and equipment – and recording studios.
In addition there are film studios on the island, some of which you can register with to become an “extra”, where you usually get paid on a daily rate.
