 Porto Colom Mallorca (Majorca)

porto colom Situated on the east coast of Mallorca, Porto Colom is approx. 20km south of Porto Cristo. Claims have been made that this is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus.
As most of Mallorca's resorts, Porto Colom was, and still is, a fishing village and the fishermen's cottages can be seen at the north end of the pier.Across the bay is the old town with it's small church.
An important prehistorical burial site, or "Naveta", can be found in the area.

The beach is about 500m from the town and is called Cala Marcal. The gently sloping beach has been awarded the prestigious "Blue Flag Award."

With the Serres de Llevant hills in the background, it is well worth a visit.

There are various shops for tourists, including two large supermarkets, as well as further shopping around the harbour.
The area is very quiet compared to the larger resorts and suitable for those wishing to get away from it all. The resort of Cala D'Or is only 9km away if you want a night out with a livelier atmosphere.

How to get to Porto Colom in the South East of Mallorca

how to get to porto colom With upgrades to many of the roads in Mallorca the route to Porto Colom is a lot better than in the past.

When you leave the airport go east on the main motorway (Ma-19) until you reach Campos, then follow the Ma-5120 to Felanitx. At Felanitx you need to take the Ma-4010 which will take you into Porto Colom.
If you are making your own way to your resort there are many car hire companies that will arrange for you to pick up your car at the airport.

Coach transfer with your travel company can take about 1.5 hours depending upon other drop off points.

There is a taxi rank outside the main doors at Son Sant Juan airport. There is a general "fixed fee" to most main resorts - although extras can be added on for luggage and other things. If you require a baby or child seat most of the taxis at the rank do not carry these as standard and it is advisable to pre-book.
