Puerto Pollensa - North East coast of Mallorca

puerto pollensa Puerto Pollensa is on the North East coast of Mallorca, close to the popular resort of Alcudia.
There is a large harbour with several small beaches and a large artificial beach which is host to a variety of water sports. Windsurfing in particular is a main attraction as the large bay is ideal. The waters are shallow making it a good place for families with small children.
Puerto Pollensa is surrounded to the north by the spectacular Sierra de Tramuntana mountains.
This is a quiet resort in comparison to places like Magaluf and Alcudia and has little in the way of tourist attractions locally although many agencies in the area can provide transport and tickets for such places.

There are many shops and restaurants available in peak season, although entertainment tends to be in the hotels, with few bars or restaurants providing live music, making it the ideal place for a quiet holiday.

The nearby village of Cala San Vincente is a popular place for tourists.

How to get to Pollensa, in the North of Mallorca

how to get to puerto pollensa There are several car hire firms which can arrange to have a car waiting for you at Son Sant Joan International airport near Palma de Mallorca.
Coach transfer can take from up to 2 hrs, or even more, as the tour companies sometimes will do drop off points in other areas before heading for Pollensa
The motorway leading north, which is easily accesible from the airport, has now been extended past Inca and takes you almost to Pollensa itself, the journey taking less than 1 hr. Head west from the airport and take the turning for Inca.

Taxi ranks are outside of the airport. There is a fixed price, depending on the hour of the day, with additional costs possibly being added for the number of suitcases. Child seats are not included. For those requiring this it is advisable to pre-book.

 Cala San Vincente in Mallorca

cala san vincente Cala San Vincente is on the north coast of Mallorca near to the town of Puerto Pollensa.

It is one of the smallest resorts on the island and extremely pretty, with access to three beaches.
The waters are crystal clear and the surrounding cliffs impressive, with fantastic views. The most popular beach for sunbathers is Cala Molins due to the fine sand.

Cala Barques is the main beach, with several restaurants, bars and cafes available, where you can sit and watch the local fishermen mending their nets. Sunbeds, umbrellas and pedaloes are available for hire. Apart from entertainment provided in the hotels, the beach is the main attraction so be prepared to have to entertain yourself.

Just around the headland is the small beach of Cala Clara.

The resort is very quiet, with few hotels, therefore not suitable for those looking for club life. It is also not suitable for those with walking difficulties as the roads wind around the rocky headlands and are quite steep in places.

Shopping is limited but the town of Pollensa is quite close and has a better selection as well as a weekly market.

Cala San Vincente is known for its man made caves dating back to the Bronze age, although there are very few left available for public viewing .
