Sailing:
Sailing has been a favourite pastime in Mallorca for many years. It is possible to charter a boat or yacht for the day, or for the whole holiday. Day charter is a good way to find out, for those inexperienced sailors, if you would like to progress further and take one of the sailing courses available.
If you are an experienced sailor and wish to charter your own yacht then this is quite feasible, or charter with skipper and crew for a relaxing, worry free trip.
Many of the beautiful bays and coves around Mallorca can only be reached fro the sea, enabling you to visit quiet and secluded spots not normally seen by the "average" tourist.

Diving:
Scuba diving is one of the most popular water sports in Mallorca. There are numerous dive schools and centres either for equipment hire or training-for both PADI and BSAC qualifications.
Dive centres must have a licence and insurance cover by law, so check that these are in place for your own safety.
Visibility in the waters surrounding Mallorca is good and the waters are relatively safe. One popular diving site is in the area of El Toro. The island just offshore is a marine reserve and there are many species of fish and marine life to be found in the area, even the occasional dolphin!
Not far away are the "Malgrats", a group of islands just off Santa Ponsa. This area is also part of the marine reserve and here you can view everything from Barracuda to Lobster.
Other Water Sports: :
Throughout Mallorca most resorts have several other water sport facilities. These include water skiing, jet bike hire and windsurfing. Banana rides are available for the children in most areas.
Fishing is also extremely popular, either from the beach or on boat fishing trips.

Land Based Sports in Mallorca

 |
Once again, due to the fantastic weather here in Mallorca, the majority of sports facilities can be found in Mallorca.
Tennis is becoming very popular, especially since the success of local hero Rafael Nadal. The majority of hotels have tennis courts available and there are numerous municipal courts and private clubs, many who can provide professional coaching.

Cycling:
Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in Mallorca, especially in the winter and spring when the weather is a bit cooler. There are many bicycle lanes and due to the flat terrain in many areas of the island the roads are suitable for touring. One such area is C’an Pastilla where you can enjoy an easy 5km ride into Palma de Mallorca – the capital of Mallorca.
Relatively new is the cycle path which starts at Cas Catala and heads west through Palma Nova, Magalluf and continues past El Toro towards Santa Ponsa.
For serious cyclists who require a challenge then there are the numerous mountainous areas which are used by many international cycling teams for training.
Bicycles can be hired by the day or for the duration of the holiday.
Walking:
Walking and hiking are very popular in Mallorca and once again the terrain is suitable for people of all ages and fitness.
For the adventurous try the Serra Tramunta Mountains with their fabulous views.
Along the route you will come across secluded villages, most still traditional and barely touched by tourism.
The flatness of the east coast and much of the south allows for gentle strolls, with many areas having special footpaths/cycle paths enabling you to walk safely from one village to the next.
Horse Riding:
The majority of areas in Mallorca have riding schools/stables. Prices vary, with many stables organising treks and tours, sometimes lasting 2-3 days. There are numerous bridle paths throughout the island suitable for all abilities, through the mountains and hills, or along the coast.
Rock Climbing:
Whether you are new to rock climbing or a dedicated enthusiast Mallorca has something for everyone. Specialist schools run courses and climbing holidays if needed, or make your own way. The fabulous Serra Tramunta mountain range and exhilarating cliffs can provide a challenge for even the most experienced of climbers.
Unless you are booking a specialist climbing holiday it is recommended that you bring your own equipment, although there are shops in Palma where you can buy equipment if needed.
Other alternatives:
For those who are on a fitness training program and want to continue while they are in Mallorca there are a number of gyms and fitness centres on the island.
For a change and a bit of fun try Paintballing, something which is becoming more and more popular, or why not take a trip in a hot air balloon? Fancy a bit of speed? Go – kart tracks are available in most areas.
All in all Mallorca has something to offer all age groups and fitness levels, all in beautiful surroundings with a fantastic climate, covering all of your sports and leisure needs.
