 Best Mallorca Beaches

Located just off the east coast of Spain, the island of Mallorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. It benefits from cheap and easy access, with budget airlines like Monarch serving the island, as well as a plethora of budget accommodation. If you're taking late holidays this year and looking for an inexpensive and fun beach break, then the island also remains balmy well into autumn. Check out a website like On The Beach for some great last minute deals.

Although the Mallorca coast has experienced consistent development since the sixties, there are still some fantastic beach resorts where you can spread out your towel on the sand, sip a pina colada and enjoy relaxing in the sun. Here are some of the best beaches to include in your holidays.

Cala Mondrago
This attractive area boasts two secluded coves, where crystal clear water laps upon unmarred white sand. Situated in the south of Mallorca, Cala Mondrago also benefits from a consistently sunny microclimate. The larger cove, furthest away from the car park and surrounded by sand dunes, is the best place to park your towel - there's even a small beach bar where you can pick up post-swim refreshments.

Es Trenc
One of the longest stretches of sand on the island, Es Trenc is over five kilometers long and backed by undulating sand dunes. The beach tends to become packed with locals during peak season, but its jaunty Caribbean feel makes it a must-see in any case. To reach Es Trenc, drive through Campos in the south of Mallorca and follow the signs to Santanyi - you should see the beach on your right shortly after leaving Campos.

Platja Muro
If you're visiting the northeast of Mallorca then don't miss a trip to Platja Muro. Located a short distance from the lively resort of Alcudia, the beach is a relaxing haven in a busy area. Despite its white-sand, sapphire-water appeal, Platja Muro has managed to remain relatively free of tourists. There's plenty of space to spread out in, and it's fun to watch the kite surfers who use the place as a stamping ground.

Cala de Deia
If you're prepared to forgo white-sand, then take a trip to Cala de Deia in the northwest of Mallorca. It has the same crystal clear water as the rest of the island, but the shore consists of pebbles rather than sand. Despite this disadvantage, Cala de Deia still makes it into the island's top ten beaches - it is far less busy than some of its sandier counterparts, and it's fun to sit on the rocks by the beach bar looking out to sea.

Es Dolc
Es Dolc is a classic Mallorca beach - beautiful turquoise waters, white-sand, rolling sand dunes and a chilled-out atmosphere. It's far enough away from the major resort towns to have remained pristine, and it's an easy walk from a collection of other unspoilt beaches. The relaxed resort of Colonial Sant Jordi is approximately a ten-minute walk away.
