Where to stay
The most popular types of accommodation for tourists in Mallorca are hotels and aparthotels.
These are to be found in all major resorts and the majority of smaller ones.
Self-catering is also popular.
Privately rented villas and apartments are also available. This gives you more freedom of choice on your holiday, literally a home from home, where you can relax and have friends round or go and sample the local facilities and nightlife.
Rural accommodation, sometimes known as agroturism, is becoming increasingly popular for those wanting a peaceful, more traditionally Mallorcan holiday. |

Hotels in Mallorca
Hotels vary in size and quality and you can find something to suit all budgets.
A lot of hotels now offer "all inclusive" accommodation. These are especially useful for families, with the cost of meals and drinks included in the price of the holiday.
Most facilities are also included in the price - although there may be a small fee for certain facilities.
Self-catering apartment complexes and aparthotels are perfect for those who like the convenience of having the amenities of an hotel, with the freedom to eat when and where you please and a few of the home comforts.
There are numerous luxury hotels throughout Mallorca, with all amenities you would expect, such as gym, sauna, spa etc. Once again you have the choice of being near your favourite resort,or further inland where you can enjoy peace and tranquility.

Apartments
In addition to self-catering complexes there are now a large number of privately let apartments available for vacations.
Here you have the total freedom to go and come as you please, with the comfort of being able to have a comfortable, quiet night in if you so choose.
These vary in size and quality, from tiny studios to luxury penthouse apartments. Prices vary considerably depending on size and location.
Whilst most owners of privately let apartments will arrange things through an agent, there are many who prefer to advertise directly, through a website, or in local newspapers and on notice boards.
It is always good practice to check the small print in any contract you may enter into, also to check on things like insurance - do you have to pay for breakages, are your belongings covered if the pipes burst and things get ruined?!
Privately rented apartments tend to have more home amenities when compared to aparthotels. Usually all kitchen appliances, including washing machine, are available, the furniture is of a higher standard, and most have a television and DVD player, often satellite also. |

Cottages and Villas
Cottages and villas are available to rent for short periods, not just in the rural areas but in and around the various resorts and towns.
Most are of very high standard, and are often the holiday home of the owner himself, with all the little luxuries of home that you need.
These have the same advantages as apartments but with more space and often a pool/garden area where you can have friends round for a barbecue, or just sit and relax in the sun.

Agrotourism
While a lot of people thing of Mallorca only in the terms of sand and sangria there is another side to Mallorca.
Travelling around the island you will discover it's beautiful countryside, dotted with historical towns and villages.
This has brought an increasing demand for "Agrotourism" or rural accommodation.
For those who prefer high quality accommodation, personal service and the tranquility of the countryside then agrotourism hotels are ideal.
Whilst there are rural luxury hotels available the majority of properties are converted manor houses, country estates or traditional farms. The emphasis is on quality, bedrooms are normally spacious, the food is excellent and most have well tended gardens and swimming pools, set in secluded, private grounds.
Agrotourism is a good choice for those wishing to meet with friendly, local people and sample some of the traditional Mallorcan lifestyle.
